Use thread double. Wind thread into 2 equal balls.

Pattern in US terms.

Front … Starting at lower edge, make a 7-inch chain. 

1st row: 3 tr in 5th ch from hook (half shell), * skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 7 tr in next ch (shell). Repeat from * across, ending with 4 tr in last ch; turn. 

2nd row: Sc in 1st tr of half shell, * shell in next sc, sc in 4th tr of next shell. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last tr. Ch 4, turn. 

3rd row: Half shell in sc, * sc in 4th tr of next shell, shell in next shell. Re­peat from * across, ending with half shell in last sc.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece is square. Fasten off.

Back … Make an 8-inch chain. 

1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 

2nd row: * Dc in next dc, ch 2. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until piece forms a square. Fasten off.


   With 2 full strands of Orange Six Strand embroider carrot in outline stitch. With Green embroider pepper and carrot stalk. Insert pad  and join pieces with neat over-and-over stitches. Sew ring to upper corner.

3rd row: Half shell in dc, * dc in 4th dtr of next shell, shell in next shell. Re­peat from * across, ending with half shell in last dc.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece is square. Fasten off.

Back … Make a 20.32cm chain. 

1st row: Tr in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, tr in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

1 ball of No. 126 Spanish Red; 15 yards each of No. 131 Fudge Brown and No. 48 Hunter’s Green.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 1/0 (zero).

A piece of felt and ring.

This was written in US terms.

Flower: Starting at center with Brown, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. 

1st rnd: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Do not join. 

2nd rnd: In each sc around make (sc, ch 5) twice— 12 sc. 

3rd rnd: Sc in first sc, ch 1, holding loops forward, * sc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * around—12 sc. 

4th rnd: In each sc around make (sc, ch 7) twice. 

5th rnd: Repeat 3rd rnd. Join to first sc— 24 sc. Break off and fasten.

Petals—1st rnd: Attach Red to joining, * in next ch-1 sp make h dc, dc, 3 tr, dc and hdc; sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * around—12 petals. Hereafter do not join. 

2nd rnd: Ch 4, holding petals forward, * sc in base of the center tr of next petal, ch 4. Repeat from * around. 

3rd rnd: In each loop around make sc, hdc, dc, tr, 3 dtr, tr, dc, hdc and sc—13 petals. 

4th rnd: Ch 2, * sc in base of the center dtr of next petal, ch 5. Repeat from * around. 

5th rnd: In each ch-5 loop around make sc, ch 2, dc, tr, 5 dtr, tr, dc, ch 2 and sc. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.

Stem: With Green, ch 20. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, * 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch. Repeat from * across. Break off and fasten.

Leaf (Make 2): With Green, ch 18, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, 2 tr in each of next 2 ch, tr in each of next 6 ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc in each of next 2 ch, h dc in next ch, sc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, hdc in each of next 3 ch, 2 dc in each of next 2 ch, 2 tr in next ch, tr in each of next 7 ch, dc in next ch, h dc in next ch, sc in next ch. About 80 Yards for the potholder, and 15 yards for the cross stitch.

Recommended crochet hook size E-4(3.75mm)

One bone ring.

These work up best if the potholder is white and the cross stitch is dark, Or if the potholder is dark and the cross stitch is white.

Potholder Pattern in US terms

With potholder color;

Chain 26. Turn, skip 1st and sc across.

Row 1: Turn and sc across.

Repeat row 1 until the length measures 5.5 inches.

Break thread.

Join cross stitch color to last sc. *(ch 1, 1 sc in center of next rib) repeated to next corner. Repeat from *.

Fasten off.

Follow graph to cross stitch. Reading back and forth.

Steam and press holder into true square. Sew bone ring to corner.

Potholder Pattern in UK terms

With potholder color;

Chain 26. Turn, miss 1st and dc across.

Row 1: Turn and dc across.

Repeat row 1 until the length measures 13.97 cm.

Break thread.

Recommended crochet hook size 6 steel hooks (1.75mm) 

Milward’s steel crochet hook No. 4 (2.00mm).
A piece of gingham or cotton fabric.

Divide thread into 2 equal balls. Use thread double.

Pattern in US terms.

Ch 3; in 2nd ch from hook make sc, hdc, 14 dc. Dc in sc, 2 dc in hdc.

Hereafter make dc around, making necessary increases to keep work flat, until circle measures approximately 6½ inches in diameter.

Make hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
   Tack pad in place. Cut fabric slightly larger than crocheted piece, to allow for hem. Cut a strip of fabric 1¾ x 7¼ inches. Fold strip in half lengthwise, wrong side out, and seam raw edges; then turn to right side. Sew fabric circle to back of crocheted circle, having fabric strip across center back and turn­ing short ends under between fabric and crochet.

Pattern in UK terms.

Ch 3; in 2nd ch from hook make dc, htr, 14 tr. tr in dc, 2 tr in htr.

Hereafter make tr around, making necessary increases to keep work flat, until circle measures approximately 16.51cm in diameter.

Fold strip in half lengthwise, wrong side out, and seam raw edges; then turn to right side. Then holding both edges together, work sc through both thicknesses, picking up only the center loops of each st and making 4 sc over ch’s. Fasten off.

With Red, ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, do not join this or the following rows. Place a marker at beginning of each row.

2nd Row. 2 sc in each sc.

3rd Row. Working in sc increase in every other st (24 sc)

4th Row. Increase in every 3rd sc.

5th Row. Increase in every 4th sc.

6th Row. Work even.

7th Row. Increase in every 4th sc. If “STAR” Cotton Yarn or “STAR” Rug Yarn is used work 2 more rounds even. Next 2 Rows. Increase in every 5th sc in each row.

Next Row. Work even, sl st in next st to even row. If “STAR” Cotton Yam or “STAR” Rug Yarn is used do not sl st but work 1 more row increasing in every 6th sc, then work 1 row even.

EDGE: * Ch 2, s d c in same space, (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time) skip 1 sc, sl st in next sc, repeat from * all around, join, break yarn.

DAISY: With Yellow “STAR” Pearl Cotton and No. 7 hook ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, join, break Yellow. Attach Blue, * ch 3, 3 dc in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space, skip 1 sc, sl st in next sc, repeat from * 4 times, break thread.

Work 1 more flower in Blue and 2 flowers in Red.

LEAVES: With Green “STAR” Six Strand Embroidery Cotton ch 10, dc in 3rd st from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, working on other side of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, break thread. Sew flowers and leaves in position as illustrated. With Green and using 12 strands for all embroidery, embroider stem in chain st. With Black, embroider eye, ears, mouth and snout.

BACK SECTION: Work 1st 33 rows same as front.

34th Row. 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, ch 10, skip 10 sc (thumb opening), 1 sc in each remaining sc.

35th Row. 1 sc in each sc and 1 sc in each st of ch, decreasing 1 sc at end of row. Complete back section same as front.

THUMB: With White and No. 3 hook, work 1 sc in each st of thumb opening (20 sc), without joining rows work 11 rows in sc even.

Next Row. Decrease 5 sc evenly spaced, then work 3 rows even.

Decrease every other st until 8 sts remain, break thread leaving an end. Thread into needle and sew top of thumb together, fasten firmly.

Overcast sections together leaving an opening around head large enough for hand.

Cover a ring with sc and attach to back of holder 1 inch (2.54cm) from top of back.

Work 3 more sections in same manner. Sew 2 sections together and sew in position as illustrated.

SNOUT: With Pink ch 5, dc in 2nd st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch.

2nd Row. Increase 1 dc at beginning and end of row.

Work 3 rows even. Decrease 1 dc at beginning and end of each row until 1 st remains, break thread leaving an end for sewing. Thread into needle and sew in position.

FLOWERS: With Yellow “STAR” Six Strand Embroidery Cotton and No. 7 (1.65mm) hook, ch 2, 10 dc in 2nd st from hook, join, break thread.

Attach Blue, * ch 3, 3 tr in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space, skip 1 dc, sl st in next dc, repeat from * 4 times, break thread.

Work 1 more flower in Blue and 2 flowers in Red.

LEAVES: With Green “STAR” Six Strand Embroidery Cotton ch 10, tr in 3rd st from hook, 1 tr in each of the next 4 sts of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, working on other side of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 tr in each of the next 5 sts, break thread. Work 4 more leaves in same manner.

Sew flowers and leaves in position as illustrated. With Green and using 12 strands for all embroidery, embroider stem in chain st. With Black, embroider eye, ears, mouth and snout.

BACK SECTION: Work 1st 33 rows same as front.

34th Row. 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc, ch 10, skip 10 dc (thumb opening), 1 dc in each remaining dc.

35th Row. 1 dc in each dc and 1 dc in each st of ch, decreasing 1 dc at end of row. Complete back section same as front.

THUMB: With White and No. 3 hook, work 1 dc in each st of thumb opening (20 dc), without joining rows work 11 rows in dc even.

Next Row. Decrease 5 dc evenly spaced, then work 3 rows even.

Decrease every other st until 8 sts remain, break thread leaving an end. Thread into needle and sew top of thumb together, fasten firmly.

Overcast sections together leaving an opening around head large enough for hand.

Cover a ring with dc and attach to back of holder 1 inch (2.54cm) from top of back.

Size 4 med cotton thread. Peaches and Crème, Royal

Size 6 knitting needles. (4mm)

Dollar Tree Potholder ( 2 for a dollar)

P          purl

K         knit

Cast on 26 stitches.

Row 1: Knit across.

Row 2: (k1, p4) five times, k1

Row 3: Knit across.

Row 4: (k1, p4) five times, k1

Row 5: Knit across.

Row 6: Knit across.

Continue in pattern until item is square.

Cst off.

Wash both the knit piece and the potholder in warm water, and dry at high heat. Then position knit over potholder, and whipstitch around to attach them together.
