MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS “KNIT-CRO-SHEEN,” Art. A.64: 2 balls of No. 68 Skipper Blue and 1 ball of No. 76 Robinette. … A few yards of Spanish Red

I’d use one of the following;

SIZE 10 Lace, Fingering, Bedspread

similar to 0 CYC Lace UK 1ply Australia 2 ply

Thread Art Walmart list twenty-seven colors

… Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 4 (2.00mm).

… A bone or metal ring.

Use thread double throughout.

Pattern in US terms.

FRONT … Starting at center, using a double strand of Skipper Blue, ch 53. 

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. 

2nd row: Break off one strand of Skipper Blue, attach one strand of Robinette. Sl st in next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, hdc in next 4 sc, dc in next 6 sc, tr in next 20 sc, dc in next 6 sc, hdc in next 4 sc, sc in next 4 sc, sl st in last 2 sc. (This is right side of pot holder.) Break off Robinette. Turn. 

3rd row: Attach another strand of Skipper Blue. Sl st in next 2 sl sts, sc in each st across to within last 2 sts, sl st in last 2 sl sts. Turn. 

4th to 7th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 2 more times 

8th row: Repeat 2nd row. Break off all threads.

With wrong side of work facing, attach a double strand of Skipper Blue to opposite side of start­ing chain, sc in each ch across. Turn.

Complete as for first half.

EDGING … Attach a double strand of Skipper Blue to any free sl st, sc in same place and in each st across to last sl st on row.

Ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, skip end st on next row, dc in end st of the next 3 rows, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), make another cluster over next 3 end sts, ch 3, sc in next sl st, sc in each remaining st across, working over other end to correspond.

Join with sl st and break off.

FIN (Make 3) … Using a double strand of Skipper Blue and starting at center, ch 2. 

1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 

3rd rnd: Sc in each sc, in­creasing 6 sc evenly around—to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc.

Repeat 3rd rnd until piece measures 2 inches in diameter.

Join and break off. Sew Fins together and sew in place.

TAIL … Work same as for Fin, making 2 pieces. Sew together and sew in place.

Embroider eye and mouth with Spanish Red.

BACK … Work exactly as for Front.

Put in padding.

Working through both thicknesses with a single strand of Skipper Blue, sc closely around to join.

With Robinette, sc closely around ring.

Join and break off. Sew in place.

Pattern in UK terms.

FRONT … Starting at center, using a double strand of Skipper Blue, ch 53. 

1st row: Dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn.
