Supplies used

Size 2 needles (2.75mm)

Simply Soft Size 4 Worsted Weight Yarn. 1 skein white and one purple.

Stitches used

Stockinette    

knit one row

purl one row

Gauge 6 stitches and rows to the inch (2.54 cm) in stockinette stitch.

With white thread, Cast on 52 Stitches

Purl 1 row white

K2 p2 rib for one inch (2.54cm)

Knit 1 row purple

Purl 1 row purple

Knit 1 row white

Start pattern on right side  Follow the chart below. For me, the x were the purple, and the empty ones were white.

Start at the top, the first row is a knit row from the left

The second is a purl row from the right

The third is a knit row from the left

The last is a purl row from the right.

If you are knitting in the round, then just follow all rows from the left.

Row 5 With white k across.

Row 6 With white thread, purl across

Row 7 With purple k across.

Row 8 With purple thread, purl across Cut purple thread.

Continue in stockinette stitch with white until it measures 3.5  inches (8.89 cm) ending with wrong side.

Shaping:

Row 1 On right side, k2 tog across (26 stitches left), turn

Row 2 P across, turn.

Row 2 knit across, turn

For pony tail hat, cast off in purl

Sew back seam and loose ends.

For beanie hat….

Knit 2 together (13 stitches.

P across the 13 stitches.

K 2 tog 6 times then k1

Cut a long tail, thread through the stitches and pull tight.

Finish with a pom pom.
